How To Eat Healthy On A Budget And Lose Weight At The Same Time
The winter season is right around the corner, and people are going to start making new resolutions. Why wait? Why not start now? Let’s break the stereotype and go into the New Year with a new YOU!! Eating healthy does not have to be expensive, and you don’t have to join a costly gym either.
Luckily, there are simple habits you can implement to help you lose weight without a ton of fuss. By establishing these habits now, you can get into a healthier routine and meet your weight loss goals before the new year!
You have heard fitness and nutrition gurus harp on about if you want to lose weight you have to adhere to the 80/20. The rule is that weight loss is 80 % nutrition and 20 % exercise. As lovely as that sounds, it’s harder to deal with that rule and implement it at the same time. In all reality, hitting that 80% can be a challenge to most of us.
You can eat healthy on a budget and lose tons of weight without spending all your hard-earned money on food. Here is how to eat healthy and lose weight on a budget:
- Plan your meals by the week in advance
Make a weekly meal plan, so you know what you are eating each night. This way, you don’t resort to ordering unhealthy fast food at the last minute. Planning meals in advance will become easier once you start writing down your grocery list before going to the store.
- Cook your own meals
I am not a financial wiz, but the goal is to lose weight on a budget. Buying a “healthy” sandwich here and there may seem like a great idea, but the goal is to do so within a budget. You do not have to cook like Gordon Ramsey, but you do have to cook your own meals. If you run out of ideas, Google or Siri will be your best friend J/S.
- Use technology to help track your steps and activity
Most iPhones or Samsung come with a pre-installed activity app you can use to track your steps. I love my Apple watch, and I am always challenging my friends to weekly challenges. It helps keep you motivated when you know that other people are involved, as well. Consider one of these tracking devices so you can make sure you are getting plenty of physical activity in.
- Switch out Soda for water
Try and switch out all your sugary beverages for lemon water. Listen, I love my coffee; however, I stopped putting sugar and only use creamer. It’s hard in the beginning, but the results will be well worth it. Your waist and your budget will thank you.
- Keep healthy snacks around you at all times
Don’t allow yourself to fall in the pitfalls of self-doubt when you are hungry and don’t have any snacks around. Keep healthy snacks around you at all times, keep them in the car, your desk drawer at work, everywhere. Some healthy snacks are hummus, granola, fruit, veggies, peanut butter, etc.
- Use non-food rewards when you meet your weight loss goals
Instead of treating yourself with a big bowl of ice cream or a cheat meal, try a non-food reward. A non-food reward could be treating yourself to a pedicure or a new wardrobe. You deserve it!!!
